This is 31 year old Carlos ‘C-Low’ Mijares and his girl Niquie, hailing from city of El Paso in Texas that straddles the border with Mexico had owned this awesome ride ‘Betty Rusty’ (a 61 Karmann Ghia) for a total of four years, until she was picked up last season by Discovery channels ‘Fast & Loud’ TV show.
Once again we spotted her on the internet – remembering thinking WOW – look at this beauty!! Instantly we contacted Carlos saying how much we loved his super slammed static ride, the vibe was real cool between us and Carlos told us he was a big fan of us guys at Rothfink Industries – we kept talking with Carlos who then arranged a photo shoot with his Ghia for us and Ultra VW Magazine – which got centre feature in Ultra along with a pullout poster.
C-Low finished his car along with help from his homeboys in thir club Old Germanz and his buddy from Garage Shop Customz. Carlos loves Ghias, so much so that he’s already putting his touch on another!
“C-Low” Mijares fell in love with a rusty, abandoned 1961 VW Karmann Ghia. He nicknamed the car “Betty Rusty.”Mijares, 30, saw beyond the iron oxide and made ol’ Betty hot again. So hot, that Richard Rawlings of the popular garage show Fast N’ Loud offered to buy her during a car show in El Paso last year. The price of love was about $7,500, and with that, Betty was sold.
The show features Rawlings and Aaron Kaufmann traveling across Texas and nearby states in search of “forgotten and derelict classic cars” to buy and restore at their Gas Monkey Garage in Dallas, according to its website.
“We made a deal and sometime later he called and said he wanted to do an episode on it,” Mijares said.
The episode was shot in El Paso. A watch party will be held at B-2 Bombers Oyster Pub, 12798 Edgemere Ste. D.
“It was fun, a once in a lifetime kinda thing,” said Mijares, a Del Valle High School graduate.

Betty Rusty got her name in part when Mijares worked on the car in his friend’s plumbing shop, when a worker with a heavy Spanish-language accent looked at it and said it was “verrrry rusty” and could never be fixed.
“It sounded like he said ‘Betty’ so the name stuck,” said Mijares, whose own nickname of C-Low came from his love of keeping his cars low to the ground. Big up carlos for his rothfink support and love.

C-Low terminó su coche junto con la ayuda de sus cuates en el club del Viejo thir Germanz y su compañero de Garaje Local Customz. Carlos ama Ghias, tanto es así que ya está poniendo su toque en otro!
