The Field of Dreams show was a kind of a must go to show for us, as we have known the organisers for a few years now, Kate and kevin of classic volks. This was their second year of running the show, so we made our trk up to York from Cardiff on the Friday evening, not forgetting a wing by the severn bridge to pick up our plus-one, Kirky (magazine photographer and show organiser of ‘OLD FRIENDS’ air-cooled show, Bristol). The journey was long! By the time we got there it was dark, and that with plenty of added motorway maintenance (it must be a Northen thing!)we landed at 12.30pm. We had time for a couple of drinks to chill and it was lights out.
We all got up with the birds and must say had ‘eyes like Columbo’, but nothing a few coffee’s could’t sort out. Our pop up trade tent was up and we were soon surrounded by some real quality rides, oval beetles (one of which we did a photo shoot with), trekkers, bay windows and split screens. It was really great to be able to hit up’t north and get to chat to people and show what we’re about. Trade was great and got to meet some new friends. We were really surprised how chilled out everything was. A really laid back chilled out show wioth acoustic music and not your normal burger-for-a-fiver-lark. There was some great quality local food vendors one of which we spotted had won this years ‘Camperjam cooking in the camper van’ competition. Saturday was a great day the sun out, lager was flowing a-plenty. Saturday night fever was kicking in, what with extra liquid nourishment, the big tent disco was great and all rounded off with a outdoor cinema chilling everyone down for late night afters. Word!
On Sunday morning, it was time to get our arses into serious gear as we had booked a very special lady, aka Amelia Belle is a pinup model and vintage enthusiast from York. Amelia complemented our vehicle choices perfectly. We had Steve Halls’ red original oval and Joe Crookes super rad trekker (FYI this is going into UltraVW magazine, November edition 2014). We then had just enough time to judge the show and shine along with our mate and very nifty, Matt from Split 66. It was a great quality show and shine with some very ‘too-close-to-call’ decisions to be made! Kevin was silky smooth PA handing out the awards and has got to be one of the very best show MCs on the that we have seen at a show. A massive high 5 to all involved and most of all Kate and Kevin, put their heart and soul into this ever growing show.
Best bit of the show for me was seeing people smiling and having a fantastic time. Worst bit if you want that was seeing everyone leave on Sunday, I didn’t want it to end. Kate / Classicvolks & Field of Dreams Organiser
Big up and see you next year Rothfink!
